Adapting Hypnobirthing Techniques for Neurodivergent Clients
with Sophie Fletcher MA, DipHyp(Sup), MNCH (Acc)
2 hour practitioner workshop, live on Zoom.
Tuesday 8 June 2027, 10am to 12pm UK time
Reserve your placeHypnosis isn't received in the same way by every mind, and that matters a great deal when the person you are working with is autistic, has ADHD, or both.
I built this workshop for people who teach hypnobirthing, or hypnosis and mindfulness for birth, and who want to understand how neurodivergent people receive hypnosis in the non-conscious mind.
There have been studies exploring the impact of hypnosis on autistic and ADHD brains, and they respond very differently, so the techniques you choose and the imagery you use really do matter.
Some aspects of a hypnobirthing course are more profound for people who are neurodivergent. Others need to be simplified before they are of any use. This session helps you tell the two apart, and gives you a way of working that is more aware of what someone may be facing while they give birth.
What you'll get:
- Two hours of live training, with time for questions
- Simple, rapid relaxation techniques using hypnosis and mindfulness
- A digital resource pack, sent one week before the session
- Guidance on when to refer on, and contraindications
- A certificate for 2 hours' CPD
- Access to the recording for 30 days
You can use this:
- as a hypnobirthing teacher
- as an antenatal teacher or doula using hypnosis and mindfulness
- as a midwife
- as a hypnotherapist working with birth

Suggestion is processed differently
Neurodivergent brains process direct and indirect suggestion, and imagery, in their own way when in hypnosis. Understanding the difference changes the language you choose.
Cues for reducing overwhelm
Cue association can be incredibly effective for people who are neurodivergent, and it has a real part to play in creating a calm environment for birth.
Simpler is more usable
Hypnobirthing can be complex and overwhelming. You'll learn how to simplify practice so that it becomes something a person can keep hold of.
The Mindful Mamma® Adapting Techniques for Neurodivergent Clients workshop
This is a two hour workshop for those teaching hypnobirthing classes, or hypnosis and mindfulness for birth.
Those with autism and ADHD respond to very specific forms of hypnosis, and techniques need to be tailored and understood within the context of neurodivergence. This course draws on first-hand experience of giving birth and working as a birthworker with neurodivergence.
Some hypnosis can also have an impact on aspects of neurodivergence that hypnotherapists often see, such as misophonia, which can weigh quite heavily in a birth room.
Please note: there are only 15 places on this training, and it runs once a year. If you would like me to teach it to a group of midwives in the NHS, please get in touch directly.
If you can't make the live session for any reason, the recording is sent to you afterwards and is available for 30 days.
This course focuses on mindset approaches. It does not qualify you to diagnose, or to give medical advice.
